Gazette Daily Update, Memorial Day Weekend Edition
This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I’m here with your update for Memorial Day Weekend.
Your Memorial Day Weather forecast looks interesting. And by interesting I mean potentially raining at any moment.
According to the National Weather Service forecast, there will be scattered showers and thundershowers in the Cedar Rapids area Saturday with the highest chance for thunderstorms coming after 5:00 a.m. and before 3:00 p.m. The high temperature is predicted to be 75 degrees with a low of 61 degrees. When it’s not raining or otherwise cloudy it is predicted to be partly cloudy.
On Sunday, the sun might find its way to poke through occasionally. There is a predicted chance for showers and thunderstorms sometime after 1:00 p.m. It will be one of the warmer days of this spring so far, reaching a high of 85 degrees. The predicted low Sunday night is 67 degrees.
Your Memorial Day forecast is similar, with a chance for showers after 1:00 p.m. becoming more likely to become thunderstorms as the afternoon rolls on. When it’s not raining, it’s expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high of 83 degrees.
Most state parks, campgrounds, and several restaurants will be open this weekend. We have a list of some other local attractions that will be open this weekend on the main page of thegazette.com.
Here is a reminder that if you do go out to practice good sanitation habits and consider wearing a mask. For this reason, wash your hands often, maintain a six foot distance from others where possible, and consider wearing a mask when you go out and are going to be interacting with people. If you want info on what types of masks to wear and how to wear them, do a web search on the topics CDC, COVID-19, and masks. I will add a link about masks in the write up of this briefing.
Beyond that, I would like to wish you a restful weekend doing something you love. It is hard to believe, but we are almost halfway through 2020. I don’t care who you are and what you do, you deserve whatever break you get.
The rest of 2020 will still be here when you get back.
